An amateur astronomer in Ireland has scored a remarkable double hit after finding his second supernova - an exploding star - in two years. Irish astronomer Dave Grennan told today presenter James Naughtie how he discovered the object, which is 120 million light years away. Read more
A magnitude 15.2 Type Ic supernova, 2012ej, was discovered on the 22nd August, 2012, in the spiral galaxy IC 2166 in the constellation Lynx by D. Grennan. The supernova is located 32.3" west and 21.6" north from the center of the galaxy.
