Dan Everly stands staunchly by his gut feeling that the 59-pound rock discovered years ago in a cornfield by a Crawford County farmer is a rare pallasite meteorite. The chairman of the Richland Astronomical Society board believes his opinion will be confirmed by others, once science buffs and curious people from around the area take a closer look. The big rust-red rock with the abrasive texture will be put on display Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lowe Volk Park Nature Center, four miles north of Galion. Read more
Rare Pallasite Meteorite Discovered in Crawford County, Ohio
A Pallasite Meteorite was discovered in Crawford County, Ohio. The meteorite weighs 59 pounds. It was discovered in a farm field while they were laying new field tile. Recently, the farmer brought the meteorite to Lowe Volk Park at a monthly astronomy event. Two members of the Richland Astronomical Society examined the rock and confirmed it was a meteorite.
