How to Hunt a Space Rock

"My team and I came up with a new lab on a chip. It essentially miniaturises an automated sample processing and analysis instrument that could be put aboard future spacecraft and sent to distant planets, moons and asteroids. One challenge we have is finding new and interesting samples to try our chip on" - Peter Willis, a scientist at JPL's Microdevices Lab.

The Battle Mountain (L6) meteorite fell in Nevada, USA, on the 22nd August, 2012.
A total mass of 1 Kg was recovered.

40° 40' 5"N, 117° 11' 21"W

Spoiler

The meteorite produced a fireball associated with a sonic boom before it hit the ground near Battle Mountain, NV on August 23.
