On 12th March 2013 the VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey (VIPERS) releases its first science results based on 55,000 new galaxy redshifts. VIPERS is using the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) to map the large-scale distribution of galaxies in a vast volume of the distant Universe. The galaxy maps issued today picture with unprecedented detail the younger Universe when it was about half its current age. Source
