Asteroid Could Fly 8,600 Km From Earth in 2026 - Astronomer
A celestial body 20 meters in diameter will pass dangerously close to Earths surface in 13 years, according to new data published on Thursday. The flyby of 2013 GM3 on April 14, 2026, may bring it within 15,000 kilometres of Earths center, or 8,620 kilometres from the planets surface, said Italian astronomer Francesco Manca of the Sormano Astronomical Observatory near Milan. The 17 - 38 metre wide asteroid 2013 GM3 will make a close pass (18.0 lunar distances, 0.0462 AU), travelling at 5.98 km/second, to the Earth-Moon system on the 6th April, 2013 @ 15:12 UT ±00:09.
