The Great Comet of 1402 made its closest approach to the Earth (0.7061 AU) on the 20th February 1402

In the year 1402 two comets appeared,-one about the middle of February, the other in June,-both of which were visible while the sun was above the horizon. One was of such magnitude and brilliancy that the nucleus and even the tail could be seen at midday.

The great comet in 1402 (number C/1402 D1) was a comet that was observed in 1402. The first day of observation is not known.
Its orbit was parabolic, with an inclination is 55°. Perihelion was located at a distance of 0.38 AU from the Sun, with a perihelion passage on the 21st March 1402

The Great Comet of 1402 was visible in daylight for a record 8 days.

Two bright comets appeared in 1402. Jacobus Angelus of Ulm wrote an extensive treatise on one of these (known today as C/1402 D1).
