A group of schoolchildren have discovered a new comet while on school trip for their GCSE astronomy class.
Astronomy students at Wakefield's Horbury Academy were in Hawaii and Australia for two nights to stargaze through the remote Faulkes telescope as part of a GCSE project. Read more
Comet C/2013 G9 (TENAGRA) was discovered by M. Schwartz, P. R. Holvorcem (Tenagra II Observatory), on the 15th April, 2013. The preliminary orbital elements of the comet indicate perihelion passage on the 24th January, 2015 at a distance of approximately 5.2 AU from the Sun.
