Mineralogist at Peabody Museum confirms meteorite fall in Wolcott
The meteorite split into two pieces as it hit the roof and fell through the ceiling onto the attic floor. The smaller part, which was brought to the Peabody for identification, weighed 7.8 ounces and is 2.5 x 2 x 1.5 inches in size. Officials are working to determine if a rock that crashed through a Wolcott roof Friday night might be a piece of a meteor. Wolcott Police said local resident Larry Beck called them on Saturday to report that a baseball-sized rock had crashed through the roof of his home, located at 2 Williams Court on Friday night, damaging the roof, copper piping, and cracking the ceiling in his kitchen.
