Received Monday, 7.40 p.m.

A strange phenomenon occurred about half-past ten yesterday morning. A large ball of fire was seen by many to pass across the sky. It was accompanied by a great report similar to a heavy cannonading, which lasted fully five minutes. The shock was distinctly felt and heard throughout the district.
The weather is beautiful and fine.
