I managed to pick up a pair of 8 x 60 Bresser binoculars from a LIDL store (£29.99).
First impressions were that it had a plastic look and feel to it (and indeed a lot of plastic was used in the construction), but the finish was reasonably good. Testing the optics i was pleasantly surprised as the image was crisp and clean with very little play in the focus mechanism. Colour rendering was accurate and reasonably corrected for colour aberrations. The use of cheaper borosilicate glass BK-7 prisms is not that noticeable, but if held slightly away from your eyes, you can see a slight squared image, rather than a roundness image that BK-4 prisms would provide. The lenses are 'fully coated' with a standard blue MgF2 coating (not multicoated).
The field of view (5.9 degrees) was average for this type of binocular.
The eyepieces have fold down rubber eyecups with dioptre adjustment. The non-slip plastic body makes the binoculars reasonably easy and light to hold.
The bottom line is that these reasonably priced binoculars are ideal for astronomy.
