NGC 306 (ESO 29-SC23) is a magnitude +12.5 open cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Tucana.
The open cluster was discovered by the British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 4th October 1836.
