NGC 7404 (also IC 5260, ESO 346-10, MCG-7-47-1 and PGC 69964) is a magnitude +12.8 elliptical galaxy located 88 million light-years away in the constellation Grus.
NGC 7404 was discovered by John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 4th October 1836. The galaxy was rediscovered by Lewis Swift on the 19th July 1897 and catalogued as IC 5260.
