NGC 521 (also IRAS 01219+0128, MCG 0-4-118, UGC 962 and PGC 5190) is a magnitude +11.7 barred spiral galaxy located 231 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Clayhall Farm House in Old Windsor on the 8th October 1785.
