NGC 229 (also PGC 2577, MCG 4-2-49 or ZWG 479.64) is a magnitude +14.1 spiral galaxy located 338 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Jean-Marie Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflector at the Marseille Observatory on the 10th October 1879.
