NGC 1947 (also ESO 85-87, IRAS 05264-6347 and PGC 17296) is a magnitude +11.7 lenticular galaxy located 51 million light-years away in the constellation Dorado.
The galaxy was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a homemade 9-foot 22.86 cm (9 inch) f/12 speculum Newtonian reflector at Paramatta, New South Wales, Australia, on the 5th November 1826.
