NGC 494 (also PGC 5035, UGC 919, MCG 5-4-34, GWT 502.57 or IRAS01201 3254) is a magnitude +13.0 spiral galaxy located 227 million lightyears away in the constellation Pisces.
The galaxy was discovered by English astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire, on the 22nd November 1827.
