NGC 2311 (also OCL 553) is a magnitude +9.6 open star cluster located in the constellation Monoceros.
The cluster was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire, on the 26th November 1786.
