NGC 7686 (also OCL 251) is a magnitude +5.6 open star cluster located 3,000 light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The cluster was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire, on the 3rd December 1787.

According to Johnson et al. (1961), the "color-magnitude diagram shows merely a uniform scatter with no significant tendency to show a cluster main sequence". They conclude that this is not actually a star cluster. Read more
