NGC 1688 (also ESO 119-6, AM 0447-595, IRAS 04476-5953, PGC 16050) is a magnitude +11.6 barred spiral galaxy located 56 million light-years away in the constellation Dorado.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 4th December 1834.
