NGC 2224 is a difficult to observe elongated asterism located 7877 ±362 light-years away in the constellation Gemini.
The star grouping was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 24th December 1786.
