NGC 1342 (also (Lund 110, Cr 40, Mel 21 and OCL 401) is a magnitude +6.7 open cluster located 2,170 light-years away in the constellation Perseus. NGC 1342 is nicknamed the Little Scorpion because of its resemblance to the constellation Scorpio.
The cluster was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 28th December 1799.
