NGC 2448 (also ESO 493 - ** 8) is a magnitude +5.0 is a open star cluster, or asterism, located 3392 light-years away in the constellation Puppis. The cluster of ~20 stars are grouped around the magnitude +5.6 eclipsing binary star HD 62747
The cluster was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 7th January 1831.
