NGC 1622 (also MCG -1-12-36, PGC 15635) is a magnitude +13.1 almost edge-on barred spiral galaxy located 222 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus. The galaxy is close to HD 29248, and midway between the galaxies NGC 1618 and NGC 1625.
The galaxy was discovered by Anglo-Irish physicist George Johnstone Stoney assistant to British astronomer William Parsons using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) reflecting telescope at Birr Castle on the 16th January 1850.
