NGC 2292 (also ESO 490-48, MCG -4-16-22, SGC 064539-2641.4, VV 178b, GC 1459, AM 0645-264 and PGC 19617) is a magnitude +10.8 interacting spiral galaxy located 94 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 Inch) reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 20th January 1835.
