NGC 2293 (also ESO 490-49, McG -4-16-23, VV 178, AM 0645-264, CGMW 2-42 and PGC 19619) is a magnitude +11.2 interacting spiral galaxy located 94 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 Inch) reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 20th January 1835.
