NGC 2223 (also ESO 489-49, MCG -4-16-2, UGCA 129, AM 0622-224, IRAS06224-2248 and PGC 18978) is a magnitude +11.5 barred spiral galaxy located 125 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major. The galaxy hosted supernova 1993K
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 23rd January 1835.
