NGC 2865 (also ESO 498-1, McG -4-22-11, AM 0921-225 and PGC 26601) is a magnitude +11.5 elliptical galaxy located 131.44 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 23rd January 1835.
