NGC 2180 is a magnitude +6.0 open star cluster located 2968 ±489 light-years away in the constellation Orion. The cluster is close to the magnitude +7.9 star HD 29212.
The cluster was discovered by British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 24th January 1784.
