NGC 2697 (also MCG 0-23-11, ZWG 5.27, IRAS08524-0247 and PGC 25029) is a magnitude +12.6 lenticular galaxy located 84 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra.
The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer Bindon Blood Stoney, assistant to William Parsons, using the 'Parsonstown Leviathan' 182.88 cm (72 inch) reflector at Birr Castle on the 24th January 1851.
