NGC 4378 (also UGC 7497, MCG 1-32-52, GWT 42.92, VCC 785, IRAS12227 0512 and PGC 40490) is a magnitude +11.7 spiral galaxy located 118 million light-years (35.1 million parsecs) away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Clayhall Farm House in Old Windsor on the 2nd February 1786.
