NGC 2295 (also ESO 490-47, MCG -4-16-21, VV 178, CGMW 2-34 and PGC 19607) is a magnitude +12.8 spiral galaxy located 75 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at the Cape of Good Hope on the 2nd February 1835.
