NGC 3255 (also OCL 817 and ESO 127-SC20) is a magnitude +11.0 open cluster located 4,713 light-years away in the constellation Carina.
The cluster was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 4th February 1835.
