NGC 2559 (also ESO 494-41, IRAS 08150-2718, MCG -4-20-3, CGMW 2-3078, UGC A 136 and PGC 23222) is a magnitude +10.9 barred spiral galaxy located 72 million lightyears away in the constellation Puppis.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at the Cape of Good Hope on the 5th February 1837.
