NGC 4727 (also NGC 4740, MCG -2-33-23, IRAS12483-1403 and PGC 43499) is a magnitude +11.9 spiral galaxy located 344 million light-years away in Corvus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 8th February 1785. The galaxy was rediscovered by Lewis Swift in April 1887 and relisted as NGC 4740.
