NGC 1797 (also IRAS 05053-0805, MCG -1-14-2, MK 1093, and PGC 16781) is a magnitude 13.5 spiral galaxy located 205 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.64 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 13th February 1887.
