NGC 3251 (also IC 2579, UGC 5684, MCG 4-25-23 and PGC 30892) is a magnitude +13.5 barred spiral galaxy located 234 million light-years away in the constellation Leo.
The galaxy was discovered by Danish-German astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 19th February 1862. The galaxy was rediscovered in April 1900 by French astronomer Stephane Javelle and relisted as IC 2579.
