NGC 4424 (also UGC 7561, MCG 2-32-58, IRAS 12246 +0941 and PGC 40809) is a magnitude +11.4 barred spiral galaxy located 50 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at Copenhagen Observatory on the 27th February 1865.
