NGC 2936 (also Arp 142, MCG 1-25-5, UGC 5130 and PGC 27422) is a magnitude +12.9 irregular spiral galaxy located 321 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra. NGC 2936, which is interacting with the spiral galaxy NGC 2937 is listed in Halton C. Arp's "Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies" as Arp 142. NGC 2936 and NGC 2937 will probably merge in about a billion years.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Albert Marth using a 121.92 cm (48 inch) reflector at William Lassell's Tigné Point observatory in Sliema, Malta, on the 3rd March 1864.
