NGC 2578 (also IRAS 08191-1310, MCG -2-22-2 and PGC 23440) is a magnitude +12.6 barred spiral galaxy located 211 million light-years away in the constellation Puppis. In the sky it can be found roughly 25' south-west of 22 Puppis.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 8th March 1793.
