NGC 2639 (also IRAS 08400+5023, MCG 8-16-2, UGC 4544 and PGC 24506) is a magnitude +11.7 spiral galaxy located 153 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. In the sky it can be found roughly 14' north of HD 233565.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 9th March 1788.
