NGC 5951 (also IRAS 15313+1510, MCG 3-40-3, UGC 9895 and PGC 55435) is a magnitude +12.7 edge-on spiral galaxy located 82 million light-years away in the constellation Serpens.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 19th March 1787.
