NGC 2477 (also OCL 720, ESO 311-SC17, Caldwell 71 and Collinder 165) is a magnitude +5.8 open star cluster located ~3600 light-years away in the constellation Puppis. The cluster contains about 300 stars.
The cluster was discovered by French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille using a 1.27 cm (0.5 inch) refractor in South Africa on the 19th March 1751.
