NGC 4048 (also IRAS 12002+1817, MCG 3-31-20, UGC 7023 and PGC 38040) is a magnitude +13.7 face-on spiral galaxy located 221 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 23rd March 1827.
