NGC 3316 (also NGC 3316-1, ESO 501-54, MCG -4-25-46 and PGC 31571) is a magnitude +12.7 barred spiral galaxy located 181 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra. The galaxy lies close to NGC 3316-2
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 26th March 1835.
