NGC 2946 (also IRAS 09362+1715, MCG 3-25-13, UGC 5143 and PGC 27521) is a magnitude +14.0 barred spiral galaxy located 411 million light-years away in the constellation Leo.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Albert Marth using a 121.92 cm (48 inch) speculum reflector at William Lassell's Tigné Point observatory in Sliema, Malta, on the 1st April 1864.
