NGC 4688 (also IRAS 12452+0436, MCG 1-33-13, UGC 7961 and PGC 43189) is a magnitude +11.9 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 45 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough on the 17th April 1786.
