NGC 4500 (also IRAS 12290+5814, MCG 10-18-62, UGC 7667 and PGC 41436) is a magnitude +12.5 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 143 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 17th April 1789.
