NGC 4949 (also PGC 45161) is a magnitude +14.9 spiral galaxy located 314 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 19th April 1865.
