NGC 4523 (also IRAS 12313+1526, MCG 3-32-68, UGC 7713 and PGC 41746) is a magnitude +14.1 barred spiral galaxy located 12 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 19th April 1865.
