NGC 5889 (also PGC 54317) is a magnitude +15.4 spiral galaxy located 595 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes.
The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer Bindon Blood Stoney, assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) speculum reflector at Birr Castle on the 25th April 1851.
